On this page you will able to keep track of what your child is currently learning in class.
Grade 2 will be studying the following units this year in computer class:
* PC Devices- learning about the peripherals of a desktop PC and their uses, the keyboard keys' uses, and what input/output devices are.
* Inserting images: Recap into saving images from the Internet and inserting them into Office documents.
* Basic PowerPoint - students will be learning the uses of PowerPoint in a presentation, how to create an animated PowerPoint presentation that suits an audience and purpose.
* Basic Excel - students will be learning the basics of Microsoft Excel, how to name sheets, format cell content and create a table and graph.
* Introduction into Coding - students will be using Kodable and code.org [Course C], online block coding website to learn the basic concepts of coding. Each student has their own account on code.org. They will be learning how to sequence, discover patterns in code to create loops over repeating instructions. Students will understand what how to use pixels and angles to be concise in movement and direction.
* Typing - students will be working on developing their typing proficiency using sites such as Dance Mat Typing and ABCYA.
* Educational websites - students are allocated time in computer class to work on their online accounts [IXL and RazKids]

Understanding the PC:
- Students will learn how to create a shared folder on the network
- Students will learn how to access their folder on the network, open/save files saved in the folder
- Learn what an input/output device is and which PC peripheral is which
- Learn the keyboard buttons - advance from grade 1 material
- Understand the uses of each peripheral
Unit 2:
Using PowerPoint:
- Students will understand what presentations are
- Students will understand how audience and purpose affect the design of a presentation
- Students will learn how to select/add/edit a design template
- Students will learn how to use the font editing options in Powerpoint
- Students will learn how to edit and select bullet points
- Students will learn how to search, save and insert images into a presentation
- Students will learn how to add animations and transitions to a presentation
Unit 2:
Coding - Course C
- Students will learn the foundation coding vocabulary
- Students will sign into their accounts on code.org and run through the different levels. Before each levelled lesson activities, students will be run through the new coding concept.
