Grade Three
On this page you will able to keep track of what your child is currently learning in class.
Grade 3 will be studying the following units this year in computer class:
* Adobe Fireworks - students will be learning what graphics are, what pixels and resolution are, and the difference between vector and bitmap images. They will learn how to use the program to create vector based graphics and edit images taken from the internet. They will be introduced to the software and progressively learn how to use the vector tools and bitmap tools to create and edit images.
* iMovie - students will be learning how to use the program to create and edit a short movie clip.
* Coding - This is the 2nd part of the coding course (extension of course covered in grade 2). Students will continue to develop their block coding skill through a series of online coding activities. Students will use an online coding site - code.org and follow course D. This course covers in depth sequencing, creating loops in code, debugging code to make a program work, and using conditionals to give choices and different outcomes in code. Throughout the unit, students will have vocabulary tests, online graded coding activities, quizzes to test students ability to code and problem solve as well as an end of unit test.
The unit will comprise of online activities using the website linked below, quizzes on vocab and code snippets to monitor student's learning of coding vocabulary, and an end of unit test.
Coding Resources:
*StoryJumper - students will learn how to design and create a 3 part story online. Students will first explore and understand all the elements that make up a story, plan out a 3 part story, and then create the story online using storyjumper.com
*Typing - Students will continue to develop their typing proficiency using Dance Mat Typing and Typing.com.
*Educational website - Students will continue to access their online RazKids and IXL Math accounts.
