On this page you will able to keep track of what your child is currently learning in class.
Grade 4 will be studying the following units this year in computer class:
* MS Word - Students will develop their word processing skills further in order to create a set of publications [a newsletter, poster, schedule, contents page, and a ticket]. They will learn how to edit margins, use headers/footers and insert page numbers, edit text into columns, and format inserted images.
* Excel - Students will be recap skills covered in grade 3, then proceed to learn what formula and conditional formatting are and how to use them to create a spreadsheet.
* Weebly and web design- students will be introduced into website design using this online web publishing software. Students will plan and create an informational website on a social studies/science topic.
*Coding - This is the 3rd course in the coding course (previously covered in grade 2 and 3). This course serves to develop the students understanding further on block coding using a series of online exercises. This unit covers a reintroduction into sequences and using writing algorithms using angles and pixel amounts, they will also be introduced to functions and conditionals, while and nested loops and debugging their code. Throughout the unit, students will have vocabulary tests, online graded coding activities, quizzes to test students ability to code and problem solve as well as an end of unit test.

* Educational websites: Students will be allocated time in class to use their online accounts [IXL and RazKids]
* Typing - students will continue to develop their typing skills using websites such as Dance Mat Typing and Typing.com.

- Students will be quizzed on Excel vocabulary - covered in grade 2 [Table, cell, column, row, cell reference, why people use tables for information storage]
- Students will re-practice how to rename a sheet in Excel
- Students will re-practice how to edit content in a cell [font style, size, color, alignment, direction, column/row adjustment]
- Students will re-practice how to make tables and charts [editing chart properties]
- Students will learn why/how, and the uses of formula
- Students will learn how and why people use conditional formatting

- Students will understand the different website categories
- Students will understand what elements are found on a webpage/site
- Students will understand why people make/use websites
- Students will practice using the design building tools in Weebly
- Students will plan out a website storyboard
- Students will independently create their Weebly site.
