Grade 5 will be studying the following units this year in computer class:
*Coding - this unit is a continuation of the course B,C, and D covered in grades 2,3, and 4. It will recap the use of angles and pixels when sequencing, loops, introduction to variables and complex loops [For Loop], functions and functions with parameters. Throughout the unit, students will have vocabulary tests, online graded coding activities, quizzes to test students ability to code and problem solve as well as an end of unit test.
Additional resources for the coding unit:
*PowerPoint - student revisit PowerPoint and refine their understanding of the program in order to create an interactive quiz on a social studies topics of their choice. The quiz will be media rich and include buttons, sound clips, videos and images. Students will research and plan out their presentation before creating it.
*Fireworks - Students will revisit the graphic design program in order to learn how to use the 'pen tool' a free -hand tool which will allow them to be more adventurous and equipped in designing their own graphics. Students will design a set of publications to suit an audience and purpose.
*Comic Book strip making - Students will use an online comic book strip maker to plan out and create a comic book on how to be one of the character traits/Internet safety and digital citizenship. They will be learning about these IT topics and how to ensure they are aware of ways to use the Internet safely and minimise their digital footprint.
*Typing - students will continue to develop their typing skills online such as Typing.com and Dance Mat Typing.
* Educational websites - students will be allocated time in class to use their online accounts - IXL and RazKids

Coding - Course F
- Students will recap the foundation coding vocabulary
- Students will sign into their accounts on code.org and run through the different levels. Before each levelled lesson activities, students will be run through the new coding concept.
